Our Teachers

Until this AMAZING Zen Den journey, I’ve primarily been doing charity work for our community and all over the world.  I've owned a celebrity charity event business for 15 years. The past 5 years I have been serving with international charity partners, traveling the world, and raising money for women’s rights, children’s rights, fresh water, and dental and medical missions. I have interviewed wonderful, altruistic celebrities and have even spoken with the Dalai Lama. I've talked to 5 presidents and Congress regarding these causes I’m so passionate about.

For the last year, I have had this heartfelt urge to stay home more with my husband of 20 years and our 11 year old son. I never thought getting yoga certified 12 years ago this would be my next life journey. Now I'm so excited to bring this MindBodySoul journey to Granbury with my partner in shine, Summer Darvischi. At Zen Den Wellness Center and Crystal Blessings, I will be sharing my long time love of teaching yoga, meditation, and energy flow with all who wish to expand on this path.  We have an incredible team and I have been blown away by the support of the community. I can’t wait to see all of you and watch all of our lights shine for our wonderful little town!

I am thrilled to bring Granbury’s MindBodySoul connection to you with the partnership of my soul sister Lauren Scott!  I have had my crystal healing practice and shop inside my home since 2015, and have since dreamed of bringing this beautiful, sparkly passion for alternative healing to our community on a larger scale.  In my divinely blessed daily life, I am also a busy mommy of four who has been working alongside my siblings and parents at our family business since I moved to Granbury 10 years ago.  I started on the wellness path at Texas Tech University in 1997, and have continued in many healing modalities ever since.  I have loved the time spent over the years in different positions in cardiac rehab, as a fitness coach, weight loss counselor, math and science teacher, and especially what I do now.  At Zen Den Wellness Center and Crystal Blessings, I will be working with our community in Crystal Healing, Crystal Reiki, Vibrational Sound Bath Meditation, and Primus Activation (heart centered energy movement.)  Lauren and I have dreamed about bringing this project together for years, and we are absolutely overflowing with joy that now is the time!  We are crazy excited and LOVE that so many of you are crazy excited too! THANK YOU for coming on the Zen Den journey with us!

I've lived in Granbury almost all of my life, only leaving to attend college at TCU. I came back here as quick as I could with my husband and son in tow. In the early '90s, my mom opened a meditation studio in Acton, just a few miles down the road from the new Zen Den Wellness Center. Because of my mom's influence, and that of her friends, I have always been interested in alternative forms of healing and spirituality. I have tried and experimented with many modalities over the years, including my 200 hour certification with the Living Yoga Program in 2007. In 2015, I discovered the practice of Wisdom Healing Qigong (WHQ), and because of it's profound influence on my life for healing, growth and transformation, I began to share with anyone who would listen. WHQ is an ancient art that combines meditation, gentle movement and sound healing to bring your Body, Mind and Spirit into total alignment with health, happiness and deep fulfillment. In April of 2018, I travelled to The Chi Center in Santa Fe, to receive my Instructor Certification from Master Mingtong Gu. I am currently progressing towards my Healer Certification in 2019. I am beyond excited to share with you this amazing practice that has completely changed my life, and I am thrilled to see, and take part in, this long-held community dream for a space such as this to take shape and thrive here in Granbury!

My yoga journey began after my first class 25 years ago. I fell in love with yoga from the very start as I found I was benefiting from the stretching relaxation and mindfulness. Prior to yoga, I was an aerobic instructor for over 20 years but wanted to share my love for the yoga practice. From my classical ballet background, I gained flexibility, strength and balance. Now, after instructing in this area for over 25 years, I have seen the benefits and healing that this practice has afforded so many. Each class starts with gentle yoga by teaching the basic postures, body alignments and beginning the yoga journey. Each class I teach differs based on what comes through spiritually. No class is ever arranged prior to teaching as I rely on the spirit to guide me. Additionally, my training has included workshops from John Friend and Rodney Yee and certified by Yoga Fit. I look forward to being your guide in starting your yoga journey.

Derrick has been a martial artist for most of his life with multiple black belts and extensive experience teaching those arts to others. Six years ago, he turned that dedication, discipline, and love for teaching toward yoga. Derrick teaches a breath-focused form of Vinyasa yoga that is physically invigorating, increases joint and muscle flexibility, promotes vital energies, and produces serenity in the mind and spirit.
“Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts. Whenever your mind becomes scattered, use your breath as the means to take hold of your mind again.” - Thich Nhat Hanh

Frances Wilson loves Zumba because it combines three of her passions; dance, music and fitness. As a previous fitness instructor she has taught classes such as Step, Yoga/Pilates, Body Pump, Water Aerobics and is currently working on her Body Combat certification and hope to one day add Belly Dance as well. In each class she breaks down the choreography into easy to follow pieces and offer modifications for all levels while you dance at your own pace. She enthusiastically shared, "I can’t wait to meet everyone and get started with this party!!!"

I have been practicing Reiki since 2005. I received my Reiki Master Teacher attunements in 2015 just before I moved from California to Granbury. I am a purist. I believe in teaching Reiki in the most accurate way possible. Reiki is passed from teacher to student by "attunements" that start the healing energy flowing through the student. One cannot learn Reiki through reading or watching a video, in order for the Reiki energy to begin flowing and to use the Reiki healing symbols, one must first be attuned by a certified Reiki Master. In Japanese, the word Reiki "Master" actually translates into something close to "sensei" (teacher) and even Dr. Usui would never say that he "mastered Reiki" as the universal life force energy that is channeled through the body of the practitoner can never be "mastered" in the Western sense. I was very fortunate to have studied under a wonderful Reiki Master Teacher, and I am only five degrees of separation from Dr. Mikao Usui himself. That means, the information was passed through Dr. Usui, five Reiki Masters, and then to me. Nobody living today knows the exact teachings of Dr. Mikao Usui, but as your teacher I promise to pass the tradition in the most respectful and accurate way possible, as it was taught to me. I will encourage you to trust your inner voice and the energy you feel and receive once the Reiki starts flowing through your body and provide support and mentor you along your journey of becoming a healer.

I’m just a girl that loves YOGA and I want to share my passion with all those that I can. My yoga journey started fairly recently but ignited a fire within that cannot be ignored. I took my 200 hour teacher training at gen.e.sis yoga in Brenham, Texas and I can’t even tell you what blessings were bestowed upon me in that time by my teachers. One of my mentors is actually my mother. How lucky am I? The other has now been adopted by me as my second mother. I started this training not really knowing why, I ended the class feeling like I finally hear what the Almighty has been calling me to do. Gods leading me to seek a path of wellness including the physical, spiritual and mental aspects and leading a life of balance. Trust me, I struggle on a daily basis and knowing you’re human I’m willing to bet you do as well. So my hopes are that we can travel this road together, lifting each other up and encouraging one another along the way. My classes are a safe environment where you can be you. A place free of judgement and a time where you can hopefully find some solitude in this crazy world. It doesn’t matter your age, your weight, your religion, or your flexibility. YOU CAN DO YOGA because you can breathe. No matter where you are in your walk you will be met with grace and open arms. So come as you are and let’s begin our practice. See you on the mat.

Hmmmm… I’m supposed to write a yoga bio telling y’all a little bit about myself and what yoga means to me. I don’t know. Yoga is such an integral part of my life that I can’t really do anything without it somehow coming back to yoga. At first I was drawn to the stretching pars. When I was full marathon training, I would pop into a yoga class to unravel my muscles and used it as an active recovery time. Later I was drawn to the more
mediation parts. There is nothing better than a nice long restorative yoga class after a morning of parenting 2 non-school age children. I really don’t know if I would have made it through without yoga in my life at that time. Now, I’m drawn to inversions and arm balances. I love the fine tuning of the body alignment to ease yourself into the pose. The advanced poses have really helped me develop muscles awareness more than any other pose or training plan for that matter.

Honestly, I never thought I’d be a yoga instructor. I took the 200 hr class as a gift to myself for my 40 th birthday to deepen my understanding of yoga and myself. Yoga is the journey to the self through the self. Yoga is so many things all wrapped into one. I hope you get a little of each from the class.

Rusty has spent her entire adult life learning about and applying body/mind medicine. Her interest in restorative modalities began in 1969, following a horrific car accident, when she was told she would be crippled for the rest of her life. After rehabilitating herself, she began began a formal education in psychology and combined her knowledge of the physical body. Rusty began training older adults when working for Baylor Center for Health Promotion (now the Tom Landry Center) and was certified in "50+ FITNESS " at the Cooper Institute for Aerobic Research in Dallas. She continued her studies in health promotion and applied her skills to the 80+ population for many years in upscale senior living communities. Then, in honor of her mother, she changed track and took her knowledge to older adults still living at home.  For 18 years she managed the Senior Activity Center in Garland, TX.,  where she began offering a series of travel and yoga retreat opportunities. As well, her exercise classes evolved into yoga programs targeting her Baby Boomer generation. She now brings her knowledge to the Zen Den. Please help Rusty fulfill her motto, Rockin' and Rollin' NOT Rockin' and Droolin'!

Sabrina Walker is an award winning artist in multiple mediums from the literary to digital illustrations to acrylic and oils. Throughout her own life, she has found art to be a healing and cathartic experience. Then learning and becoming attuned to Reiki brought a whole new facet to her world of healing potential and that she is capable of helping and healing others as well. It lead her to the amazing opportunity to work with a tribe of wonderful people from Weatherford to Granbury and the whole DFW Metroplex. Feeling truly blessed and grateful, she now brings Artful Meditation to the Zen Den in hopes of assisting others to experience the joy of accessing their own creative centers through Mindful Meditation, and healing hearts and minds through Art.

In future she hopes to expand her knowledge and healing practice by advancing to Reiki Master Teacher and Certified Art Therapist.

As a student of public health, I believe the best way to teach the populace about the connection between their physical and emotional well-being is to provide quality programs that address (sometimes in a very subtle way) the physical and the spiritual. Yoga has been my vehicle for this connection, and I believe the same nurturing connection can be experienced at Zen Den Wellness Center.

Yoga has been a foundation of my continuing spiritual growth and my recovery process for the past 7 years. While living in Cleburne, TX, I had the opportunity to study at The Yoga Room, where I was taught the language and movements and spirit of yoga. I was honored to be able to teach basic yoga classes, whenever possible. As well, my attendance at The Texas Yoga Retreat for several years gave me the opportunity to experience different types of spiritual encounters and yoga styles. These experiences have deepened my commitment to learning and thriving in the yoga life and helping others to share this experience.

As well, I am interested in the place yoga can occupy in the recovery process and have started my path to becoming Y12SR Certified through Yoga International. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experiences in this area with all who are in need of a program that combines the tenets of a 12-step program with the soul of yoga through connection of body, mind, and spirit.
